Here are the timings for tonight's total lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse happens when the moon passes directly behind the Earth relative to the sun, and the moon passes through the Earth's shadow. Mid eclipse is a 3:37 a.m. That's when the moon will be its darkest, usually a deep red. Some light reaches the moon by refracting through the Earth's atmosphere to give it that dull red glow. Before the total eclipse begins, you'll see the shadow moving onto the moon for about an hour. After it's over, again you'll see the shadow moving off the moon.
